I love the Cricut Design Space. There is so much creativity that you can use it for and there are so many projects available to be worked on! But between all the tutorials you can learn from here are three tips for Cricut Design Space if you want to get started quickly!

  1. Choose your colors for your pieces appropriately.

If you make all of your pieces the same color, they will all appear on the same mat when you go to cut them out. If you make them different colors they will appear on different mats. But maybe you want them all on the same mat, even if they are different colors of material. Why? Let’s look at Tip #2.

  2. Move individual pieces around the “Print Preview” mode.

Did you know that you could drag the individual pieces around in the “Print Preview” mode? Even though they are auto-laid-out on the mats, you can still move them around! Combine this with Tip #1, and you can lay out multiple colors of paper and cut all at once! So don’t worry about switching things out anymore; just move the cut to the appropriate place on the mat, lay down your material in the same spot, and cut away!

  3. Attach, attach, attach!

I might even do a whole post on all the ways of grouping your elements, but on the most basic level, attach is your friend. Want everything to be cut or written together? The attach feature sends everything to the “Print Preview” mode in one go.

    • I have an example for this. I wanted to write out words with the marker tip but all of my “y”s ended up far away from the rest of the word. So… I made a new textbox and just put the y’s on them.
    • OH MAN, when I got to the Print Preview mode, the y’s were all far away from the rest of the word again! I spent a good bit of time individually moving y’s around to go with the word they belonged to…
If only I had known about Attach earlier. Eventually I figured it out, but attach allowed me to place my y’s in the Workspace, attach them to the rest of the word, and then send the entire word to the Print Preview mode. Mission accomplished.

I used my Cricut to cut out the branches and flowers for this floral washi tape card and I even made a tutorial for it!
