This card by Claire of Life on The Scrap Heap is the basis for this tutorial! And that card was inspired by Freshly Made Sketches #116. The designs belong to them!
I made this card for my cousin’s birthday, but it can really be used for any occasion. For this tutorial, I experimented with a different border color and orientation of the branches. Follow the card making tutorial below to make something similar, and if you do, please share your creations! I’d love to see them!
Materials:
- Base card (store bought or made from folding a piece of cardstock, my card is 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”)
- Cardstock in 5 colors:
- Black
- Border color (green)
- Background color (light pink)
- Branch color (grey)
- Flower Color (or colors) (light and dark pink)
- Gold paper
- Washi tape
Tools:
- Straight Edge Cutter or Cricut Portable Trimmer
- Cricut
- Punch that produces tiny circles (I’m just using a holly leaf one that has berries to get the circles!)
- We R Memory Keepers Washi Chomper or scissors
- Glue Stick
Tutorial:
1) Cut a rectangle out of the the border color cardstock to fit within your base card with a 1/8” border on all sides. Cut a rectangle out of the background color card stock to fit inside the border with 1/8” border on all sides.
For a 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” card, cut the border (green) to 5 1/4” x 4”, and cut the background (pink) to 5” x 3 3/4”.
2) Glue the background on the border, and the border on the card with a glue stick.
3) Cut three strips of washi tape: 2 that are 4” tall and 1 that is 4 1/2” tall.
4) Using the We R Memory Keepers Washi Chomper or scissors, make a v-cut into the washi tape on both sides.
5) Stick the washi tape on each third of the card.
6) Cut another rectangle out of the border color and a black rectangle 1/8” smaller around.
For a 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” card, cut the border to 3 1/4” x 3” and cut the black to 3” x 2 3/4”.
7) Glue the border over the washi tape, and the black within the border.
8) Using a Cricut or hand cutting, create a branch that you can mount to the side of the card. Make it look like it’s coming out of one of the sides of the card.
9) Using a Cricut, or a punch, create flowers that you can glue on the branch, always touching the branch.
10) Punch out tiny circles out of gold paper to add to the centers of the flowers and decorate as appropriate.
And done!
A beautiful floral card similar in design as the one made by Claire! Check out her blog for more gorgeous cards!
